Newsworthy-CNN: Oprah told by Swiss store she can’t afford one of their bags

Along other news this morning is an unlikely headline about Oprah, the Media Mogul being a victim of Racism in Switzerland. According to CNN, International Desk segment, Oprah went inside a store and asked the sales person about a bag named after Jennifer Aniston and was refused. She was told more than once during the conversation that she can’t afford such bag. The bag accordingly was only worth over $30,000 (oh, 5 zeroes- right!).

It’s either they did not recognize Oprah or because Oprah has been off the grid the past years that they sort of forgot about her or thought she’s broke (Oprah or not, it’s an insult to refuse someone to take a look at a merchandise on display).

The store apparently said that it was a total misunderstanding.

What do you think?

Every one agrees that life is fleeting. And that life is change. It never stays the same. I am a believer of choice, of opportunities embraced and lost, I dictate what happens to me. This makes me hopeful, makes me dream, gives me courage and clears my realm. And I hope to share how change affects my life.

  1. The sales clerk is obviously working because she needs money. Would she turn down a fat commission check because she doesn’t want to serve a Black person? She was probably more concerned that she could lose her job if that $40k purse she handed over was grabbed and Oprah ran out of the store with it. Oprah doesn’t really have the greatest fashion. If you dressed a White woman up in the same attire, nobody would think they are rich either. I wouldn’t show a $40k purse unless I had clear signs that the customer could afford it, and since wealth is not just a White thing, the race of the customer doesn’t prove anything. I would look more for the clothes they wear, jewelry, did they drive up in a bugatti, have an entourage, security, a man by their side wearing a suit?

    1. So you think the sales clerk was scared that Oprah would run out of the store with the bag and neither be able to stop her nor their security? That’s interesting, but you have a point there. 🙂

      Thanks for that!
